Charlotte, NC, January 17, 2012 — SignUpGenius.com announced this week that revenue for the company was up by 585% in 2011. The free online sign up site saw over 3.25 million volunteer responsibilities completed during the year through sign ups created by their users. SignUpGenius provides this web-based volunteer management solution for non-profits, schools, sports, churches, families, colleges, and businesses. By enabling 1.25 million volunteers in 2011 to sign up for tasks online, the company has done away with the need for paper sign ups, "reply to all" emails, and phone trees.

SignUpGenius.com simplifies the process of coordinating events and people by providing online sign up forms that can easily be tailored to fit any need. The simple sign up wizard allows a sign up creator to design a one-of-a-kind sign up in 5-10 minutes. The sign up creator can then allow the site to automatically send out email invitations to the creator’s group, or the sign up creator can email a unique sign up form link to the group members. Once an invitee receives an invitation, she clicks on the link and is able to see details about the event and all available sign up slots. As volunteers sign up, group members can view which responsibilities have been chosen and which remain. The site also allows volunteers to swap responsibilities without having to involve the volunteer coordinator.

Site co-founder, Dan Rutledge, recognized the need for a more streamlined process of coordinating volunteers in 2008. Frustrated with trying to manage his own church commitments in addition to the school and sports activities his four kids were involved in, Rutledge set out to design a web-based solution. “As a programmer and web developer, I knew I wanted to create a system that would be incredibly simple for individuals and organizations, while at the same time robust in terms of functionality. We continue to add upgrades all the time, but we make sure they don’t compromise the ability of our users to create a sign up in mere minutes.”

Since its official launch in 2009, SignUpGenius has seen a growth rate of at least 100% every six months. During its initial phase, the site’s core users were individuals, mainly women with school-aged children. Women discovered the site as they were invited to bring snacks to little league games, serve in a child’s classroom, or provide a meal for a friend in need. Once more and more moms from the same schools and organizations began using the free sign up system, the core users grew to include entire churches, schools and non-profits. States Sherry Dixon from Makefield Elementary School in Bucks County, PA, “After using SignUpGenius for our bookfair and Oktoberfest, we received lots of positive feedback from parents saying how easy it was to use. Chairpersons for other committees were anxious to use the sign-ups for their events, and now it’s become routine for us….The lists are flexible enough so that we’ve used them for class parties, our talent show and fundraisers too.”

In addition to providing its sign up services for free to users, SignUpGenius credits several of its features for its continued success. Sign up creators have access to hundreds of backgrounds to choose from for every sign up they create. In addition, users can choose from several privacy settings on each sign up, so they control who is able to access and sign up for their events. Plus, users can set up automatic email reminders to go out when they would like them to in order to remind volunteers of upcoming commitments.

"We're projecting continued growth in 2012 and we'll continue to release new functionality to make it easier for groups and individuals to organize their volunteer events," says Rutledge.
