Verti Group wrote the open letter in response to a recent Google announcement involving particular types of directory web 2.0 linking, which they stated proved to actually cause more harm than good. They also posted a video from one respected SEO authority on their home page several weeks ago pointing to this discussion.
Since much has changed concerning Off Page optimization, Verti Group believes backlinks are now actually like playing with fire for people new to SEO or those with little experience with SEO. They cite the recent Google web 2.0 linking announcement as proof.
Verti Group controls some of Seattle’s most competitive searches and they are paid not hundreds, but thousands a month to know what works in SEO. Verti Group doesn’t tag their client’s websites for the same reason that they no longer need to be number one for SEO search terms as they did for years. It is all about the client now.
