Getting into the sports industry is a lot harder than one would think. Everyone going to school for Sports Management degrees has the dream of one day working for a professional sports team, but how do you actually get that dream job? Just like obtaining any job, the key is experience. There are some entry level jobs that you can find selling tickets, working at call centres, or third party promotion teams. But for invaluable sports business experience you want hands on training from individuals with a high degree of knowledge in the sports industry. Cosmos Sports offers a 4 month internship that gives interns the opportunity to be involved in the numerous facets of the sports business world. Such facets include; Sports Marketing, Ticket Sales, Retail Sales, Sports Branding, Sports Consulting, Recruiting, Sports Sponsorship, and Event Management. It provides you with the opportunity to experience different aspects of sports business to help guide you to the specific field you will most enjoy and excel in.
The staff at Cosmos Sports all started their careers with the internship program, and enjoyed it so much they didn’t want to leave. Many others have gone on to successful careers in various sports businesses. Some examples include working with the; Toronto Argonauts, Ottawa 67’s, Golf Canada, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Evan Colborne recently became the Manager of Team Services at Cosmos Sports after his internship in 2011. Evan had this to say upon completion of the intern program:
“Interning with Cosmos Sports has been the single greatest learning experience of my Sport Management education. The culture at Cosmos is one that immediately makes you feel like an important part of the company. I’m confident that no other place in Canada would provide the same or similar experience as Cosmos Sports does.”
