Would you like to purchase air plants online, but first you would like to find out how to take care of them? Many people purchase AIR PLANTS online but they don’t have a clue on how to water them. The good news is that there are some websites that provide relevant and concise information on TILLANDSIA plants and whose goal is to ensure that these beautiful plants won’t die after they reach their destination!

It is useful to know that AIR PLANTS are not like soil bound household plants and, for this reason, it is important to know them. Most people are not aware of the fact that air plants are much easier to care for than potted plants. Provided you have a computer and Internet access you can learn all you need to know about watering AIR PLANTS properly.

AIR PLANTS do best when you soak them in water. They take in all their nutrients from water through the body and leaves and not through the roots. The roots actually serve one purpose – to attach the air plant to the host tree or rock or even the ground, nothing more.

It is recommended to soak AIR PLANTS in a bowl of water for 40 minutes to an hour every week to 10 days. Make sure the water is lukewarm so you don’t shock the plant. Also, since TILLANDSIA plants draw in their nutrients through the water they draw into their body, it would be best to give them water that has actual nutrients in it. Rainwater is best, but if you don’t have an easy way to gather rainwater, the next best thing is to use spring water.

Distilled water is not recommended for it causes them to slowly die because there are no minerals left in the distilled water filtration process. If you are PH conscious, you should know that  TILLANDSIA  plants need more (but slightly) acidic water. The best range is between 5.5 to 6.0 alkalinity. City water from the tap is most often higher than this and therefore not ideal for air plants. Bottled water is best.

Lastly, it is important to learn how to take care of your TILLANDSIA plants and how to water them properly! Many people water their air plants correctly, but then they don’t let them dry out properly. It is so important that after you soak them in water you let them dry completely. TILLANDSIA plants should be fully dry to the touch within 4 hours after their bath or they will begin to rot and thus slowly die. Also, do not return air plants to terrariums and vases until they are completely dry.

If you follow these simple watering instructions and you keep TILLANDSIA plants at least 10 feet from day light in your home or office, you will have healthy air plants that produce 3-4 “pups” a year along with many flowering colors each year. Enjoy soaking your air plants weekly and don’t forget to dry them out completely.
