Long Island, NY, April 28, 2012 — Atlantic Automotive Group today released a statement further clarifying news reports about the dismissal of one of its employees:
While the company applauds Deborah Stevens for her selfless assistance to a fellow employee, the reality is that she was terminated from Atlantic Automotive Group for poor job performance over the course of many months.
Reports that her dismissal is connected to her kidney donation are incorrect; but, her inability to meet the minimum standards for her job are well documented. Still, because the company recognized her unselfish acts, it actively tried to resolve her job performance issues, but a solution could not be found.
Despite numerous attempts to counsel, train and support Ms. Stevens, including reassigning her to another convenient location at her request, her job performance was substandard and even threatened the credit worthiness of customers. Some of her colleagues said she seemed to be intentionally doing things she knew were incorrect.
To the company’s surprise, she even declined a severance package from the company and has declined to accept its offer to pay her COBRA medical insurance. Her attorneys have declined the offer by Atlantic Automotive Group's attorneys to mediate her claims.
The company is dismayed that her claims of a workplace dispute with a supervisor have prompted what appears to be an orchestrated smear campaign. In fact, the company supported her decision to donate a kidney and even began to support the Kidney Foundation.
Atlantic Auto Group has been in business for 30 years. It employs about 2,000 hard working Long Islanders and is proud to provide them with a good living and an excellent work environment, respecting all employees and the good work that they do.
The company expects to have this resolved in its favor in the legal system, if a claim is filed.
