Orland Park IL, 17-MARCH-2014 – The Center for Sleep Medicine, Chicago insomnia treatment center, is pleased to announce that they offer solutions for obstructive sleep apnea. This condition is often linked to fatigue and inability to get a restful and uninterrupted night's sleep. Fatigue is a significant symptom of the condition. The Center has the tools and knowledge to adequately test patients in order to determine whether or not sleep apnea is an underlying problem.
A representative for the Chicago insomnia treatment center says, "When patients have a partial or complete collapse of the airways leading to the throat, the condition is called obstructive sleep apnea. During sleep, the airway is partially collapsed and breathing stops temporarily. This condition partially awakens the sleeper. One of the related symptoms is snoring. Air passing through narrow breathing tube causes it to vibrate."
He continues, "More and more American adults are being recognized as suffering from obstructive sleep apnea. Today, the number tops eighteen million adults. The condition is considered to create a higher risk level for other issues such as stroke, high blood pressure, heart attacks, heart failure and diabetes. There is increasing evidence that surgical procedures should not be the course of intervention for obstructive apnea."
Weight control is usually recommended for patients with OSA. Those adults who experience this type of apnea are more likely to be obese. The patient can often benefit from a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device. A mask fits over the face and provides light air pressure to keep the airways open. An alternative appliance is a mandibular advancement device.
