Peabody, MA, 6-MARCH-2014 – Blomerth Chiropractic and Peabody chiropractor, Dr. Ellen Blomerth D. C., are pleased to announce that carpal tunnel syndrome pain can be alleviated with the non-invasive techniques offered by chiropractic medicine. The focus in chiropractics is to promote self-healing through the use of gentle and effective techniques to reduce inflammation and swelling in the wrist area.
Dr. Ellen Blomerth DC, Peabody area chiropractic physician, explained the pathology of carpal tunnel to an interviewer recently. "The bony channel in the wrist that surrounds the median nerve and several tendons is quite narrow. Any swelling of the tissue that passes through the area can create compression and irritation. It also manifests as pain and weakness in the outside fingers and the thumb."
She continues, "The therapeutic techniques offered by chiropractic medicine begin with a review of the patient. We determine if there are issues beyond the wrist area that could be causing the pain and related symptoms. In most instances, the therapy plan will include icing to restore circulation in the area. We might use gentle manipulation. We have found that reducing the swelling and irritation of the tissues will provide long-lasting relief."
Chiropractors will review posture, particularly work site posture, since carpal tunnel is typically experienced in people who are performing repetitive tasks such as keyboarding or typing. Ergonomic improvement on the job may help to prevent the symptoms of carpal tunnel from returning. Taking periodic breaks from the keyboard will also help to reduce the symptoms.
