May 17, 2011, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL – A survey of recent graduates of massage schools found that one of their “most pressing concerns” is obtaining comprehensive and affordable massage insurance.

The survey was conducted by MASSAGE Magazine, the only paid monthly publication serving the massage community nationwide.

“To put their months of hands-on-education to work, students have been informed by their schools that obtaining liability insurance is a necessary business expense,” says Stanford Erickson, editorial director of MASSAGE Magazine. “Seven states even legally require liability insurance before a licensed massage therapist can open a practice.  They are: Alabama, Colorado, Indiana, Missouri, Massachusetts, South Dakota and Wisconsin.  In addition, some local municipalities also make this a requirement.”

The survey also indicated that high on the graduate’s priority list when opening their practice is developing a professional business website.

“Websites are today’s digital bill boards,” says Erickson. “For more than a decade now, MASSAGE Magazine has included articles and advice both in our magazine and our website, www.massagemag.com, on how a massage therapist can build their clientele.  It is rewarding to find that recent massage school graduates understand just how important the internet can be in marketing their skills and services.”

This recent survey validates earlier surveys conducted by MASSAGE Magazine, says Joseph D. Doyle, publisher of MASSAGE Magazine.  It is one of the primary reasons for the mid-2010 launch of Massage Magazine Insurance Plus, the most comprehensive liability insurance program for massage therapists covering more than 350 massage modalities and many other related disciplines.

MASSAGE Magazine has been writing about and educating the massage therapy community for 27 years,” says Doyle, who also is publisher of FutureLMT and www.massagemag.com.  “This level of active engagement allows us to understand the unique needs of touch and body therapists as we developed Massage Magazine Insurance Plus in conjunction with Lloyd’s of London.

Massage Magazine Insurance Plus includes professional liability insurance, general liability insurance, product liability insurance, $2 million per occurrence, $3 million annual aggregate coverage, $2 million product aggregate coverage, $100,000 rental damage insurance, $15,000 identity protection insurance and $1,000 lost or stolen table and equipment coverage.

In addition to each therapist receiving full insurance coverage immediately upon completion of a short online application, the massage therapist receives a free website, directory listing and monthly newsletter.
