Down through the centuries fisherman have been spinning their tales of the one that got away, of the thrill of the hunt, of their various experiences and of course don't forget how huge the fish was that they caught. The tales are told over campfires, at family gatherings, and shared with groups and other individuals. These stories have a bonding phenomenom and are enjoyed by all ages. These are stories told by the old to young and from father to son. These are the stories of our lives. Mike Teifke has a story all of his own.

These are stories told by the old to young and from father to son. These are the stories of our lives. Mike Teifke has a story all of his own. It is one that not only him and his father enjoy in the retelling, but entertained this writer as well. I wanted to share that story.
The anticipation mounted as two eager fisherman went on the hunt for Muskellunge on the Lake of the Woods in Canada. It was a night that Mike Teifke and his father would never forget.
It was 2 am and the sky was as black as could be. No moon could be seen and there were not any stars to steer by. It was a cool summer evening and with their trusty thermos of hot coffee and cold weather gear, they were ready for an all night adventure. As the evening wore on, Mike’s dad laid down in the boat to get some much needed rest. As he lay sleeping in the boat, Mike maneuvered the boat onto a reef and proceeded to cast his lure.
He soon found that he got the attention of a school of Muskies who found great interest in his lure and the boat as well. As they came along side the boat, Mike used a “figure 8” motion with the lure, which really attracted their attention. As they would bite the lure, their large bodies would beat against the boat sending waves of water everywhere. This sent Mike's dad into a frenzy of waking up and grabbing the nets in expectation of netting one of the Muskies. It was rather comical and both father and son enjoyed the experience. Unfortunately for Mike’s dad, he didn’t get much sleep that night. It truly was a fun and special night for these two seasoned fisherman.
