Gresham OR, 7-JANUARY-2014 – Great Health Chiropractic and Dr. Jeffrey Bratten, D. C., Gresham chiropractor, are pleased to announce that scoliosis symptoms can be alleviated and corrected by the use of holistic chiropractic medicine. The condition of scoliosis interferes with activities directly because of the improper alignment of the spinal column and secondarily because of the pain associated with the spine's twist.
According to Dr. Jeffrey Bratten DC, Gresham chiropractor, speaking in a recent interview, "Scoliosis is a condition where the spinal column is curved. If the condition worsens, the spine may also twist or rotate. It appears in children and teens as uneven shoulders, an uneven waist, one shoulder blade that appears more prominent than the other or one hip higher than the other. The ribs on one side of the body protrude farther than on the opposite side. Severe scoliosis may create difficulty in breathing and significant back pain."
He continues, "Because spinal column alignment is an important part of chiropractic therapy, it fits well with the efforts to relieve scoliosis pain. The benefits of spinal adjustments on a regular basis may alleviate the constant pain that those with scoliosis live with. Spinal alignment is a benefit to the proper functioning of the entire body."
Pain relief is due to relief of pressure on nerve roots and surrounding tissue at the locations where spine curvature is worst. Various techniques may be used, in additional to spinal adjustments. These include massage and muscle stimulation. Posture exercises and strengthening procedures for connective tissue will help to support the spinal column in the best manner.
