Anchorage AK, 1-APRIL-2014 – Arctic Chiropractic and Dr. Joel Ingersoll DC, Anchorage chiropractor, are pleased to announce that chiropractic medicine techniques offer relief from the pain of tension headaches. Using natural methods doesn't require pharmaceuticals or chemicals which simply mask the symptoms. The underlying cause of the pain isn't addressed.

According to Dr. Ingersoll DC, speaking to an interviewer, "Tension headaches feel as if a vise is being tightened in a band around the forehead. The pain is categorized as mild to moderate. The symptoms are felt behind the eyes or in the head or neck. The pains can come on once or twice monthly, or may appear more frequently. When the level of chronic headaches is reached, the person may suffer as many as fifteen days of headache each month."

He explains, "Tension headaches may be brought on by any of several causes. These include drinking alcohol, eye strain, fatigue, smoking, sinus infection, caffeine, and poor posture. Chiropractic medicine reviews information about the symptoms and the possible causes and sets up a program of care that eliminates the causative factors as much as possible. This requires the cooperation and purpose of the patient."

By making lifestyle changes, many patients are able to significantly reduce the number, severity and frequency of tension headaches. Direct techniques which may form part of the care plan include posture changes, and massage therapy. Frequent work breaks help to reduce tired muscles and eyestrain which can be a causative factor for some types of headaches.
