His winning photograph “Passing Through” was taken at Nevada’s Black Rock Desert and is featured in the January 2012 issue of Popular Photography, available in stores now.
Portland, Oregon, December 15, 2011 — We are pleased to announce that world-renowned Master Photographer Rodney Lough Jr. has been named the Grand Prize winner of Popular Photography magazine’s 18th Annual Readers’ Photo Contest. His winning photograph “Passing Through” was taken at Nevada’s Black Rock Desert and is featured in the January 2012 issue of Popular Photography, available in stores now.
The competition received over 3,500 submissions from many award-winning photographers around the globe. Entries were judged in seven different categories: action/sports, animals, cities/architecture, landscape/nature, objects, people and readers’ choice. Rodney’s image received the highest honor overall, the 2011 Grand Prize Award. With readership exceeding 2 million, Popular Photography is the largest photography magazine in the world.
Rodney is honored to receive this award. Throughout 2011, his photographs have received awards from the Epson International Panoramic Awards, the International Loupe Awards (formerly Aperture Awards), the Professional Photographers of America and Popular Photography. When asked about the inspiration for his work, his answer was simple, “It’s not hard to be inspired by what you’re looking at. I capture it the way I see it, so others who would never see this in real life are able to enjoy it forever.” Having signature gallery locations in Las Vegas, San Francisco and Sausalito, allows Rodney to share his inspiration with the world and provide an opportunity for fans to become collectors by purchasing his work at each location.
