Many of the jobs offered by Wal-Mart during this period will be temporary positions with above average pay for the type of jobs but there will also be temp to perm and permanent jobs as well. With the increase in sales for the Holidays, Wal-Mart typically hires additional people to handle the rush and this season is no exception. Not wanting to be caught flat footed, the chain is over compensating by putting on more than their usual increased work force.
With Black Friday having been a huge success, and the weekend sales following suit, Wal-Mart has decided to hire an additional 8% more than expected to cover the needs of each stores increased volume. Traditionally Wal-Mart hires to meet the needs of their store but the increase in new personnel is a move in the more customer friendly mode that the huge big box store based in Arkansas has been pursuing. Increased competition from other big box stores as well as from smaller mom and pop types has caused a move in how Wal-Mart operates in some realms and increased customer service is one area.
