The world’s largest retailer, Wal-Mart, is hiring thousands over the next few weeks to handle the onslaught of business for, both during the Christmas sales rush, as well as for the busy January returns exchanges season.

Many of the jobs offered by Wal-Mart during this period will be temporary positions with above average pay for the type of jobs but there will also be temp to perm and permanent jobs as well. With the increase in sales for the Holidays, Wal-Mart typically hires additional people to handle the rush and this season is no exception. Not wanting to be caught flat footed, the chain is over compensating by putting on more than their usual increased work force.

With Black Friday having been a huge success, and the weekend sales following suit, Wal-Mart has decided to hire an additional 8% more than expected to cover the needs of each stores increased volume. Jobs are not just limited to cashiers as there are shipping and receiving jobs, floor stocking clerks, specialty positions such as bakery and butchers as well as sales staff to serve the customer on the spot.

Traditionally Wal-Mart hires to meet the needs of their store but the increase in new personnel is a move in the more customer friendly mode that the huge big box store based in Arkansas has been pursuing. Increased competition from other big box stores as well as from smaller mom and pop types has caused a move in how Wal-Mart operates in some realms and increased customer service is one area.

Considering the opportunities to grow and be promoted, many prospective employees are seeking jobs at Wal-Mart using http://jobs-at-walmart.com, a hiring portal that makes the application process simple and easy. In store applications are accepted but the process can be egregious and inconvenient due to each store not always having the availability to offer that option in ways that make it easy to apply.

Cashiers are in high demand due to the volume of people coming through as well as receiving clerks and inventory stocking clerks. With the round the clock shopping options that are offered, all shifts are available in most departments and, as is their business model, Wal-Mart does train those that have little or no experience.

All this is good news for shopper as well as those looking for work as it means increased customer care and service and will provide a better shopping experience for the Holiday Shopper.
