(Miami) May 26, 2011 – The City of Aventura in conjunction with The Continental Group and 610 WIOD News Talk Radio will host a “2011 Hurricane Preparedness Summit” on Thursday, June 9th at 7:00 p.m. at the Aventura Government Center located on 19200 West Country Club Drive, Aventura, FL 33180.  The event is open to Condo Association Board Members, Property Managers, and all residents of the Aventura community and admission is free.

Moderated by 610 WIOD’s Manny Munoz, co-host of South Florida’s First News, the interactive panel will discuss best practices in hurricane preparedness with members of the community and focus on helping attendees create a realistic, functional plan that is critical for successful preparation, response and recovery. Panelists will include Robert Ebaugh, Weather Service Specialist from the National Weather Service; TCG representatives Louis Pincus, Senior Vice President High Rise; Bill Worrall, Corporate Vice President; Clay Thomas, Quality Assurance Manager; Aventura Police Captain Steven Seefchack; Aventura Building Official Raul Rodriguez. Topics will include steps for creating a personal hurricane plan; how to protect your community, common areas, and property; how to prepare for an evacuation; what to expect before, during and after a storm; and community training and preparedness for hi-rise condominiums if a hurricane strikes the City of Aventura.

This is the second condo hurricane preparedness summit TCG and 610 WIOD News Radio have coordinated in the past month to help residents educate themselves before a natural disaster strikes.  The Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1st and ends November 30th; projections point toward an active 2011.  With over 63 communities over 2.7 square miles of land, the City of Aventura understands the need for condominium specific hurricane preparation in order to minimize property loss and injuries.  When it comes to hurricane preparedness and disaster recovery, TCG, a leading community association management company, provides useful advice on the response to and protection from hurricanes, as well as disaster recovery services to its properties.

“Many cities across the U.S. have suffered from a dangerous storm weather season and it is critical that property owners take every opportunity to stay informed on what to do in the event of a hurricane or severe weather storms,” said Eric M. Soroka, Aventura City Manager. “The panel of hurricane professionals will assist our city residents with useful information tailored to their specific needs such as preparing for an evacuation, power outage and what to do with a family member with special medical needs.”
