Memphis TN, 21-MARCH-2014 – Memphis Chiropractor Neurology and Dr. Michael Bibb, DC, DACNB, Memphis chiropractor, are pleased to announce that they offer solutions for local residents who suffer from the pain and related symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel is a condition found more often in women, and in those who perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keyboard work.
Speaking to an interviewer recently, Dr. Michael Bibb, DC DACNB explained, "The symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) are pain, numbness, weakness and tingling in the thumb or first three fingers of either hand. The little finger is not affected by CTS. Often, the pain is significant enough that it awakens the person from sleep. Some relief may be found by shaking the hands, at least in the early stages."
He continues, "The carpal tunnel is a narrow area in the wrist surrounded by bone. The median nerve and tendons all pass through this space. Any factor that causes the space to become smaller, or the contents to become larger can cause CTS symptoms. Swelling or irritation of the tissues or injuries to the wrist, as well as arthritis can cause pain."
Chiropractic therapy focuses on reducing swelling through natural methods. These may include gentle massage, ultrasound sessions or wrist support. Identifying issues with posture or ergonomics can be a tactic used in reducing pain symptoms. Ice and heat therapy is another way to reduce swelling and irritation in the wrist area. Chiropractors do not use drugs to simply mask pain, nor do they use invasive techniques.
