Oakville, ON, September 12, 2011 — Today Baltimore’s Power Plant LIVE! unveils the highly anticipated Leinenkugel’s Beer Hall; the newest addition to the city’s hottest entertainment and dining venue will open to the public. One of America’s oldest craft breweries (est. 1867), Leinenkugel’s will occupy a newly constructed glass pavilion that opens up into a lush, festive outdoor beer garden. With nearly 40 specialty brews in a stunning setting, the venue will fast become the meeting place for downtown Baltimore.
Built by OpenAire, Inc., the world’s premier designer, manufacturer and installer of retractable roof enclosures and operable skylights, the dramatic building is designed to evoke the look of a Victorian conservatory. Measuring 65’/ 20m by 37’/ 11.28m, the structure is 12’/ 3.6m tall at its highest point, and features a retractable roof that easily opens and closes at the touch of a button. Additionally, large overhead glass doors open to enhance the outdoor feel. Unlike a traditionally constructed space, the retractable features allow patrons to feel like they’re part of the energy and atmosphere at Power Plant LIVE! and experience the entertainment going on around them. When the weather is cold or rainy, the roof and sidewalls close up to protect occupants from the elements, while still allowing them to enjoy the natural light pouring in through the glass.
“It is truly an unbelievable space,” says David Bolwerk, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, OpenAire Inc. “Sitting under that soaring trussed roof, enjoying time with family and friends in this beautiful, breezy space is a completely unique experience, and it’s one I think people will definitely want to repeat!”
The Beer Hall is the second project OpenAire has done for Power Plant LIVE! Their initial build was the striking Alley Roof, a glass canopy built between two existing buildings to cover a permanent outdoor stage. Power Plant LIVE! is Baltimore’s premiere entertainment complex, hosting over four million visitors a year. Leinenkugel’s Beer Hall and the Alley Roof are part of an $11 million renovation of the facility that is playing a big part in the ongoing renewal of Baltimore’s Inner Harbour.
“OpenAire was able to take an ambitious vision and create unique solutions that are defining elements of this vibrant venue,” says Bolwerk. “OpenAire has created a variety of solutions for restaurants and venues around the world. From Joe’s American Bar and Grill in Boston, which has a retractable-roof patio incorporated into an historic building, to Sliders Bar and Grill in the Watiki Indoor Water Park Resort in South Dakota, a dramatic glass-enclosed space with a waterslide running right through it. OpenAire creates visually appealing and enjoyable destinations that draw locals and tourists alike to the communities they serve.
