With heavy cuts becoming part of our daily lives it has been an easy decision for the consumer to cut out exotic holidays abroad and has probably been the first item on the balance sheet to cut back on.  As the British Pound is now on par with the Euro and struggling against the American and Australian dollars, it would seem the British public are now holidaying in the UK.

A holiday is a much needed rest in these stressed-out times as we all need to recharge our batteries and the need is ever present to chill out from this hectic pace we all seem to live at.

Researchers have found that those who, in the last couple of years, did in fact take a holiday abroad, now plan to save money this year by choosing the UK instead. 51 per cent stated they are getting put off from travelling abroad simply because of the high costs of flights which are still rising.

Despite the recession the researchers also confirmed that when over 3,000 Brits were asked, 60 per cent were unwilling to give up their holidays, having said that half of those surveyed, said they did need to cut costs, but would definitely not give up their breaks away.

A lot of people in recent years have been so used to booking a trip abroad they sometimes forget that the UK is one of the most beautiful, lush and welcoming countries in the world.  The West Country is still, and probably always will be, one of the most popular holiday destinations for a UK holiday.

Camping is becoming more popular and holidaymakers can save up to 60 per cent off their holiday costs when choosing this option. Many people are discovering camping in the UK to be fun, safe and a cheap alternative to fly-drive-hotel holidays. Camping in Devon is coming out top of the favourite locations to pitch that tent.

Gone are the days when camping was synonymous to hiking or roughing it out in the wilderness and is rapidly becoming a much loved family holiday. Data for 2010 for the UK showed that camping was 78 per cent more popular than holidaying in Spain.

A spokesman for Wooda Farm Holiday Parks Devon said, “improvements to modern tents where you can acquire a 3, 4, 5, or 6 person tent, family tents and luxury tents, Campsites and holiday parks today are worlds apart from years gone by, with electricity, Wi-Fi, pristine shower facilities, and plenty of activities to enjoy on site. Here at Wooda Farm we have much to offer the holiday maker on a site which offers modern facilities, such as free hot water, showers and hairdryers, with plenty of activities of all the family and we think our campsite Devon is second to none”.

Holidaying in the UK is not about getting out the loungers in the back garden, why would it be, when there is a huge back garden to explore, in the whole of the UK for your summer break.
