Since 2009 the UK outbound travel and tourism market has been significantly affected by economic factors, as the recession, unemployment and increasing levels of air travel taxation, bit deep into our pockets. This coupled with the low exchange rate for sterling affected the tendency of consumers to travel abroad, thus a revival of UK travel and tourism market was seen to take an upward turn as a weak pound made overseas holidays more expensive and many UK holidaymakers chose to holiday at home.

Another difficult year was experienced in 2010 by the UK outbound tourism market, as many negative factors which affected the market in 2009 continued to have an impact, and the UK tourism market is once again expected to benefit from the trend for ‘staycation’ holidays which is forecast to show further growth in 2011.

The tourism market is witnessing a big dip in bookings to holiday destinations such as Greece, Turkey, France and Spain, and a recent survey showed that there is a high level of interest in camping holidays; furthermore camping in Devon seems to be the most popular destination.

Consumer confidence is low and it is inevitable that they will cut back on things like holidays abroad, and Britain’s tourism sector could see a huge boost over the summer as most people will choose to holiday at home.

The most significant change in holiday habits has seen the growth of self-catering whether camping, caravanning or in rented accommodation on campsites and holiday parks, according to recent figures caravanning showed the largest growth, also camping in tents has increased in recent years.

Devon is a very popular holiday destination in the UK; it is the third largest county in England.  Devon has relied on tourism to sustain its economy, and is it any wonder when helped by the beautiful national parks of Dartmoor and Exmoor, also its wonderful beaches, Devon is the perfect destination for a family holiday or a short break with plenty of places to stay, things to do and attractions to visit.

If your interest lies in bringing your accommodation with you, such as a caravan or tent then choose a campsite Devon of which there are plenty, or one of the many holiday parks Devon, that offer stunning views and excellent facilities.

Rolling hills, open spaces and clotted cream, sums up Devon, it is one of the most idyllic places within the UK, and every taste and holiday wish can be met within this county.  If you are looking for a holiday of diversity Devon will fulfill this, with dramatic coastlines, historic towns, breathtaking scenery and an abundance of wildlife, also an array of activities for you to enjoy, such as walks along the miles of golden sands, surfing, cycling or fishing, it is a perfect location for outdoor activities.
