Like any insurance we take out, there are a number of companies who provide such cover; some may be multi national companies who we hear about on a regular basis through advertising for example, however there are also other companies who provide such cover but on a smaller scale such as an independent broker. Either would be able to provide you with the same cover as they may work with a panel of insurers who they then work with. An example of a few insurance companies who provide critical illness cover is:
(i) Liverpool Victoria
(ii) Bupa

Who you choose is down to personal choice as to who you wish to take out the insurance with. If you prefer a more personal service you may choose a company which is smaller so that you get a more one to one approach where in larger firm you may not get the same experience. Some people need more advice than others but some people may decide to take out the insurance through the internet where they do not even speak to anyone so again it is down to personal choice. However taking out the insurance over the internet would be for those people who know exactly what they want and do not require any advice. In previous years people were cautious of buying products off the internet where now it is becoming more and more common as some goods are cheaper. You can search more easily on the internet to find the best deal, and you would then subsequently receive documentation either via email or the post but it means you can search for what you need in the comfort of your own home.
Being on the internet means you are most likely to be in a competitive market so one company will be in close competition with another. Therefore when selling critical illness cover a company will try and distinguish themselves from others. So you should therefore take out the insurance with who you feel is offering you the right plan at the right price. You always want to ensure you are getting the most for your money however with a critical illness plan this may prove harder as you want to ensure you have a comprehensive contract no matter who you take out the critical illness cover with.
One way to identify the comprehensiveness of a contract is by a comparison chart. Most insurance brokers selling critical illness cover should have access to comparison charts which will show you how many illnesses are covered as standard, how many extra illnesses are covered by each provider and how many extra partial critical illnesses are covered. This would then make it clear and simple to someone so that they can appreciate what there contract covers against others that they may be considering.
Therefore it would matter who you took out the insurance with if one company was offering more illnesses covered than the other. Another factor which may influence your decision is the terms offered on the plan, if there was an exclusion on one plan offered by an insurance company it would be worth looking at another to try and get a better offer so again it would matter who you took out the insurance with if you were to get better terms offered from another provider.
Some people may also take into consideration the claims history of the insurer they are considering taking out the insurance with. There are many factors that ideally should be considered when selecting a critical illness provider.
